The Story Behind "The Mobility Wizard"

People often ask how I came up with the name

The Mobility Wizard. The truth is — I didn’t. The name found me.

It all started while I was working at a mobility workshop in southern Spain. One afternoon, a large Spanish family — a mother and her seven grown children — burst through the doors, clearly distressed. The mother’s power chair had suddenly stopped working, and they had pushed it all the way to me, hoping for help.

In Spanish culture, family means everything — and the love and unity this family showed was beautiful to witness. They were desperate to help their mother regain her independence.

I listened carefully, took one look at the chair… and something clicked. I reached into my jacket pocket, pulled out a small extendable magnet, and gently tapped the joystick.

Click. Whirr. The chair came back to life instantly.

Gasps filled the room, followed by cheers and laughter. Then someone shouted:

"¡Guau! ¡Es un verdadero mago!"

"Wow — he’s a true wizard!"

"Wow, mae'n ddewin go iawn!"

They weren’t wrong — but the magic wasn’t what they thought. I had spotted the real issue: the woman was wearing a magnetic bracelet for her arthritis, and I knew that particular model of chair could be immobilised by a magnetic key. Her bracelet had accidentally triggered the lock.

From that day on, people began coming in asking for “El Mago” —The Wizard. And the nickname stuck.

So when it came time to start my own business, there was only ever one name that made sense:

The Mobility Wizard.

What started as a moment of insight and care became a reputation — and that reputation has grown into a business built on honesty, technical know-how, and a genuine desire to help people stay mobile, independent, and empowered.
